Your private doctor does not work down here in the ED. He is probably not going to see you here. He didn't call to "reserve" you a bed. Your doctor can't call here and "order" someone to see you right away.
Also, all the specialists in the world don't work here either. Blowing off your dermatologist appointment to come here and get your weird rash checked out because you "just want to get to the bottom of this" was probably not a great idea, since we're just going to send you to the dermatologist anyway.

Amen. And, if you have an appointment later but just didn't feel like waiting to see your primary care I will make sure you are here one hour after your scheduled appointment time.
I've had patients request expedited care in order to make their specialist appointment they've been waiting for a month for(and for the problem that brought them to Emergency). And they always seem to show up exactly 1 hour prior to the appointment, and tell me this after the labs are drawn.
I tell them to pick. Which doesn't go over well. :)
Oh, and are you guys going to fax the records of this visit to my doctor? Yeah dude! That's what we do in the ER, duh.
We hear this all the time in EMS. "My doctor is going to meet me at the ER." Right, and the check is in the mail, I'll love you for ever, and I wont - uh, never mind.
In 31 years in EMS, I've had exactly ONE doctor actually meet a patient in the ER. That was an ENT that I also went to and it just confirmed my positive opinion of him.
Other than that, nada, zilch, zero, never.
Hahaha I've had a few parents call to tell our ward that they were coming to the hospital soon and wanted to know what room was reserved for them. We stifle back laughter and tell them they need to go through admitting first!
And welcome back, GuitarGirl RN.
It is at least comforting to know that the same crap is going on in every ER! Hate suffering all alone, it's nice to have company!
LOL...now that was a funny post. Nice job. How true. We get a lot of ENT patients that come to us that way as well!
I will be following. Started my own blog last week so stop by.
LOL...your post is too funny. Second time I read it and I have to tell you, it still makes me laugh. I think we all have experienced that...
Enjoy your week.
I could continue in the vein of TOTWTYTR, but he made that point.
OTOH, if they believe their doctor will take care of everything, you might tell them to call their doctor, and to leave you alone. Sometimes it is best to play along with a delusion.
