Not like most of you care, but I figured I'd share anyway:
I called customer service, and they told me that since my Roomba is past warranty, and since they don't have a repair service, they would offer me a deal: A new Roomba Sage, which is basically the same one I have, just a different color, or a brandy-new Roomba at a discounted price.
The Sage they offered me is a bare-bones model. It doesn't even come with a charger or battery, which was fine with me, since I'm just going to use the ones from my current dead Discovery. The cost for this option? $100. Also, since it's new, from them, I get a new warranty!
I would have loved to splurge on a discount on one of the new models, but the one that I want is around $260 or so, even with the reduced price.
Eh, whatever. I just want my Roomba back. The dog-hair tumbleweeds are piling up!

I have 2 Roomba Sage's and love them. But if you have a Discovery, they are not the same. I also have 2 Discovery's, and I prefer them to my Roomba Sage's. The reason is that you can program your Discovery to clean while you're gone, but you can't program your Roomba Sage's. I bought my 2 Roomba Discovery's off of Wootsellout.com for $119.00 each with 3 month warranty. I received all of the accessories that came with the new Discovery. See if Irobot will see you another Discovery model for a good price. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! I'm just going to stick with the Sage they're sending...I have a very old Discovery that was never programmable; I couldn't schedule it. Which is OK, since I only run the Roomba when I'm home to make sure the dogs don't decide it's something fun to play with. Sometimes I'll start it, leave with the dogs for the park for a while, and then when it's done, it docks itself.
That website is great! I have to check it out more extensively, I think...
Crap. I just typed out a very detailed comment about Hammacher Schelmmer and Blogger ate it. FU Blogger.
Thanks for your update. Glad it sounds like it worked out.
Did some research. Reviewers all say the same thing: the plastic parts fail no matter how gently you treat these things--mostly in the gearbox.
They say go get a new 500-series on HSN for $212, delivered, or buy it from Hammacher Schlemmer for full retail. ($350 for the pet model. Bastards.) Hammacher Schlemmer offers a no-questions asked, lifetime warranty.
I checked this with friends who have bought and returned stuff successfully in the past, and with one of their customer reps on the phone. (He was really nice, too.)
If it dies 3 years into your relationship, return it to HS and they will give you an upgrade to a current model for the difference between what you paid for the broken one and what the new one costs. If HS starts selling a new model and you want it, return the old one and pay the difference. Doesn't have to be broken. If you decide you just want your moneys back, return it and HS will just give you your moneys back, less shipping.
Shipping is $30. This sucks, but for a large-ticket item, it's not unheard of.
Considering Roombas fail due to a design flaw (cheap plastic), it makes sense to spend extra on a fancy warranty, no?
