Why was I not born Jimmy Page?
Oh my god, Robert Plant is freaking awesome. And John Paul Jones, with that crazy electric mandolin. And does ANYONE play drums like good ol' Bonzo? I can't even stand it. Sometimes I really miss being part of a band that is so instinctively and musically together like that.
Whenever DR is watching VH-1 Classics and some Led Zeppelin thing is on, whether it's the new Song Remains the Same or other live stuff, I have no choice but to watch and pay attention. These guys are truly masters and true musicians in every sense of the word. Ugh, it sounds SO good, I just want to...roll around in it a little.
It makes my little heart hurt and go pitty pat. (And no, I'm not talking about chest pain.)

Live "No Quarter" is one of my favs!
Grand stuff. The trick, if there is such a thing, is that Jimmy Page is a great arranger, and the band listens to each other. As with most things, attention pays off.
Glad you're enjoying it (from another musician).
From the Husban': Why come when I say, "let's watch one of the Zeppelin DVDs!" she says, "...I'll go read in the bedroom."
Hey, Matt - tight but loose, loose but tight! You got front line Percy and Page, backline JPJ and Bonzo. More though, Bonham follows Page, JPJ (my favorite bass player ever!) follows Bonham.
Truly this Blog is a Stairway to Heaven. I came over via the sh.... firestorm on AD's blog and if you don't mind I've added you to my blog roll! I look forward to catching up on this reading as I can see I have missed many Beverage alerts and very smart tongue in cheek truisms!
Thanks in Advance,
John
Methadonians- LMAO! and I always thought they were actors!
I've been to more concerts than I can remember but I've always loved telling people that the first concert I ever went to (when I was about 14) was a Robert Plant concert and Phil Collins was his drummer (I think it was some sort of special thing that the two of them got together for that show.) It was also the most memorable. Oh, the perks of having an brother quite a few years older than me and Mom forcing him to take me along. :o)
Achilles Last stand is the most underrated Zep song, no question. I prefer the Knebworth concert in '79 to the live version. This particular one's also on the DVD:

GG's hubbins again: gettin' way oof topic o' nursin, y'all...but gotta give it up for Zep's Presence! Their most underrated, probably least known record and my personal favorite (tho sheddin' no tears for billionaires who really SHOULD'VE been way more generous with the publishing - after the first record Page stopped the outright rips but Plant never stopped lifting whole verses...uh, "Nobody's Fault" anybody? Bueller, anybody?).
Honestly, I don't think they ever made a bad album. The very last one (In Through The Out Door) was different but not bad....and Page's solos through it are really, really lyrical.
...talk about *listening* to each other...
Watching Page and Plant doing a vocal/guitar _duet_ (nearly duel) -- true poetry. Almost made you feel like they were literally making love right there on the stage... Hoping this post doesn't offend...
